1 April 2010 Sum-It Total Accounts Software submits VAT Return figures direct on-line to HMRC Website

With the new legislation forcing the majority of businesses to file their VAT Returns on-line from April 1st, this month Sum-It are releasing the latest update to Total Farm Accounts that continues to ensure you only have to input your data once to update everywhere.

With both Starter and Standard levels of Total Accounts you will be able to do your normal VAT bookwork and then, at the point of updating your VAT period, the system will ask if you wish it to send your VAT Summary Return form data direct to the HMRC website through the Government Gateway. By having your User ID and Password pre-stored in your Total data this submission becomes a very quick process. Furthermore, each transmission is validated by the HMRC so you can be sure it is successful.

The Total Accounts software starts at only £425 + VAT for the Starter level. For further information click on Total Accounts or to arrange an on-farm demonstration or order a demonstration CD please contact us on 01844 213003.

18 March 2010 Sum-It are first in UK to provide NVZ Manure Planner in all Total Livestock and Cropping Modules

With the increasingly onerous NVZ regulations putting farmers under deeper pressure to demonstrate their compliance, Sum-It has launched the latest version of Total that incorporates a new Manure Plan facility.

The Muck Planner is included in both Starter and Standard versions of Total Field, Total Dairy, Beef and Sheep software and lets you record the average annual numbers of all the NVZ specified types of livestock on your farm and the numbers of those wintered inside.

From these figures an overall summary is then calculated, showing how much active N kg per Ha is being produced on-farm whilst also demonstrating that you have the necessary storage to handle the manure and slurry over the closed period.

To check out this Muck Plan Calculator why not give us a call on 01844 213003 to order your free demonstration CD today.

21 October 2008 OMSCo and Sum-It launch pilot project to get dairy farmers into IT

Organic dairy cooperative, OMSCo, has joined forces with SUM-IT to convince farmers of the benefits of Information Technology. It is backing a pilot scheme which will introduce farmers to, and provide training on, Sum-It’s new Dairy Management Software. DairyMate.

As part of the project, selected OMSCo members in the South West are receiving a free copy of Sum-It’s new DairyMate program, and attending a local workshop/training session. The aim is to show how computer technology can enhance their businesses and make their lives simpler.

Sum-It’s South West Manager, Teresa Sturtivant has developed the training program for farmers to overcome barriers to learning such as time, cost, mobility and lack of experience in using a computer. Hence the workshops have been delivered at a local low cost venue, between 11 a.m and 3 p.m., using OMSCo’s new training laptops to allow the farmer to benefit from ‘hands on’ experience in a small and friendly environment.

The workshop is planned around Sum-It’s DairyMate program; trainees are guided through the process of entering information from the DairyMate Diary Card onto the program such as calvings, movements, fertility events and health treatments. At the end of the session each member takes away a DairyMate CD and their own data, loaded directly from the BCMS or milk recording services such as NMR, CIS or QMMS. Teresa comments , “the project has been designed so that the process for the farmer to get up and running is as simple and straightforward as possible, we recognise that this is essential if we want to encourage the first time user to take this initial step to computerising their dairy herd records”.

Members of the pilot will have free access to Sum-It’s ‘user friendly’ telephone support line and will receive regular program updates through the internet for the duration of the project. Sum-It will be closely monitoring the progress of each user through telephone contact and evaluation forms and will be holding regular meetings with OMSCo to measure the overall success of the scheme with a view to rolling out the project to all OMSCo members in 2009.

If you would like to find out more about the project you can contact Sum-It's South West Area Manager, Teresa Sturtivant, on 01884 821894.

5 July 08 Sainsburys fund 40 Lamb Producers to computerise with Sum-It systems

Funded through the Sainsbury’s Farm Connections scheme via Randall Parker Foods, 40 members of the May Hill Lamb Producers Group, who are key suppliers of lamb to Sainsburys and based in the Gloucestershire/Worcestershire region, were recently able to get their sheep enterprises set up on computer.

The producers attended an initial group training session, two held in April and one in June, where they were introduced to their new laptop computer, printer and Sum-It Sheep Software.

Each laptop had been personally configured by Sum-It for each farmer, including setting up email addresses and pre-loading their opening sheep flock numbers onto their data.

Sum-It’s Training Manager, Gordon Fowler, then took the members through a series of hands-on tutorials explaining how they would transfer their manual sheep records onto the software and demonstrating how the practical and straightforward design of the program makes it very easy to be confident operating the program within a short space of time.

May Hill Lamb Group Members receiving their computer systems and training

Apart from funding the initial equipment and software, Sainsburys have also covered the cost of the first two years’ software support and updates, ensuring that help for every member is only a phone call away.

Sum-It’s Sales Director, Ben John, said “We’ve found in the past that particularly when one is new to computers, it can really help to start up as part a group, such as the May Hill Lamb Producers project. Apart from the Sum-It training sessions and telephone support, members can learn a lot from each other and later on as their data builds, benchmarking can be undertaken to help increase efficiency in each member’s enterprise.”

If you are part of a farmer group and you would like to reap the benefits of computerising your farm records, please contact Ben John on 01844 213003 for a discussion as to how we can put together a flexible package to suit your requirements.
